Mood Board for our film

This is a rough mood board for our film. Our film is based around a group of girls who are seeking revenge on the main characters (Tiffany) cheating boyfriend. This mood board helps us with our ideas visually.

plot synopsis

After our discussion on our ideas for our main film we have decided to base our film around :

3 girls
camp
revenge on the boyfriends
 fire
title
murder
death
photos of the boyfriends
fire flames
richmond park
sleepover

Reasons why we have decided to focus our opening sequence around these aspects is because we found out that these topics are important to the audience we are targeting.

Discussion

As a group we have been discussing more of our ideas and have thought that we might base our opening sequence on a group of girls, (inspired by Pretty Little Liars) who each have a story behind each of their childhoods and therefore from their upbringing have different behaviours/personalities.

Another idea which we thought about would be having a older girl, with a younger girl. The younger girl and older girl will share a relation through the use of a object (headband, scar on head) etc. As our genre is a  teen/thriller this is hybrid genre. By having a hybrid genre, helps expand the target audience to not only teenagers who will enjoy teen films, but also people who enjoy thrillers.

We are yet to discuss further how we will make our sequence and whether it will have a monologue to foreshadow what is later on going to happen in the film, or if we will do this through on screen pictures.

Heathers research

As a group we watched the opening sequence of Heather's, which is a black comedy which is dark and targeted towards teens. We watched this to get more ideas on our film, and also look at the codes and conventions of these films.

It opened with the producers of the film,
It then follows to the main actors

Then the title of the film
The audience then establishes the setting and also the main characters of the film

It then continues to introduce more of the actress' name with the characters name.

Opening Sequence ideas

Today,  we  discussed our ideas with each other and we decided that our main opening sequence will be based around the TV show ' Pretty Little Liars' this is based around 5 girls, and the ring leader goes missing and is supposedly dead. However 'A' is a unknown person who tries to stay in contact with the other girls. We will include credits, in the opening sequence and will include the production company. We looked at different opening sequences and producing companies. Such as, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Paramount etc. We then did research into what type of films these production companies produced, and decided that our production company would be Universal. Universal Studios would be a good production company because they produce films which have a broad range of dramas, and have also produced Teen films for example Wild Child, starring Emma Roberts, which is also one of the films we were inspired to produce a opening sequence to.

Wild Child Research

The main character opens the film with her asleep. Signifying to the audience that she is the protagonist in this film

It then cuts to the title of the film 'Wild Child' and also shows where the protagonist character already is.

The audience are then introduced to the main character's sister. We understand as the audience that she is interested in music.

We see the connection in relationship which these two characters have with each other.

Here is the first glance the audience see the main character around lots of other people. We as the audience, establish how she behaves and how she acts. We understand that she is wild, out of control, and very controlling herself. From the dialogue we see that she is going against her father and is about to host a house party.

She's The Man Teen/Comedy/Romance Film Opening

Opens with the producer/distributer of the film.
Followed by another producer of the film.

More producers/distributers.

Establishes the setting. Cuts to boy water skiing

Cuts to the main character with a football, implies that she is interested in football and enjoys outside activity.

The actress' name is then presented to the audience, after a candid shot of her.

The opening sequence of She's The Man begins with an upbeat pop song. This accompanies the fast pace editing and creates a exciting fun atmosphere to foreshadow the mood of the whole film. There is a mix of cartoon drawing like images and real life images which gives it a messier look. This scruffiness is reflected in the main character as she is playing football and falling over, highlighting that she is not very feminine; more of a tomboy. The main themes of the movie are highlighted in the opening sequence such as sport, shown through the football match and waterskiing, and romance, shown through the main character kissing her boyfriend.

More research into a teen/thriller genre

After discussing with our group, we have decided to mainly focus on doing a teen/drama film opening sequence. We then went on to watch opening sequences of The Back Up Plan and Juno.

Film Opening Title Research

The Duchess:

The opening sequence to this film opens up with the main production company of the film, BBC films.
It then cuts to the other production companies which are associated with the film and BBC. The credits here also show the distributing company.
This opening sequence did not show the main actors but instead set the scene for the audience and included the time and place of where the film was set. This allows the audience to understand the film more, without getting a full insight into the film.  This opening sequence did not show the audience much about what is later to come, this leaves the audience tensed and makes them want to keep watching. The opening credits are dark, but when it cuts to the establishing shot of the grass and the situation, the audience is able to understand that the film is set in 1774, and by the mise-en-scene can tell that the film is about a upper class group of people.

Palo Alto:

The opening titles to this film were all against a black background. This was significant because it foreshadowed to the audience that the film they were going to watch is going to be dark and mysterious. This creates a dark atmosphere for the audience. This is reinforced when during the opening sequence when the two main characters are sat in the car, and are having a conversation. The two main characters are seen consuming alcohol and smoking in the car, this implies to the audience that alcohol and smoking may be a common theme throughout the film. The opening sequence allow the audience to understand that the film is about normal teenagers who are seen to be "reckless".

Title of film

The Hunger Games- Mockingjay Part 1:

The opening sequence to this film opens with the production company, Lionsgate. This opening is very different to the others I have done research on because it does not show any other credits to cast or producers/directors etc. Instead, the opening sequence has a black screen and a voiceover of the main character, Katniss Everdeen. The voiceover is a monologue from Katniss in which she is reassuring herself over a nightmare which she has had. The black background then fades into a close up of Katniss, however, the surrounding stay dark. The dark lighting portrays to the audience a sense of danger. The sequence then moves on with Katniss talking about Peter, (another main character in the film|) and then cuts to Katniss in the hospital, based in the Capital, when Finnick (another main character) is also. The sequence helps ease the audience into the storyline by setting the scene and introducing characters. Not much of the storyline is shown through the sequence.

                                                         Production Company

Main Character performing monologue.

During Katniss' monologue she introduced the characters of Peter and Finnick.
We then cut to the setting, the hospital, where both Katniss and Finnick have been held captured by the Capital.
